Disappointing, I know everyone was really looking forward to doing some math in here, right? ... The fact is that I have all of my post-graduate mathematics softcopy somewhere. I even know where it is. It was just done on a Mac, with Word and a program called MathType. I really have no idea how I am going to get it on the web. I think the operating system that is on my G3 does not run MathType and I never had the luxury to do PDFs back in the day.

So we'll just have to see. The whole reason I ended up working on the web is two-fold, and both reasons have to do with math... First, while teaching and assisting on graduate and upper division undergraduate math courses, I was always looking for ways to make the materials more accessible. I envisioned an interactive hyperlinked tutorial of abstract algebra, partly to help me study for my quals but also just to make it easier to learn. FrameMaker was super expensive. I have some work I did in Hypercard (does anyone even know what that is?). Then I found out about the web, even though it was mosaic, and had newsgroups for my classes...

Second, I was at a conference at MSRI on hyperbolic geometry and remember, almost like a weird out of body experience, hearing the term 'hyper text transfer protocol' and seeing this undeniably cool web site that let you manipulate three dimensional representations of hyperbolic objects real time. It was what I always wanted for a platform for communication.

So through a synchronicity of events, I ran out of money for graduate school, started teaching myself everything about HTTP, CGI, HTML, Perl and UNIX that I could, and managed to become a webmaster when it was still a thing to be.
